💡 What is the "5-Yen Coin Turtle"?
In Japanese, the 5-yen coin is called "Go-en," which sounds exactly like the word for "good connections and relationships." To celebrate our 5th anniversary, we combined "5-yen (Go-en)" with the turtle—a Japanese symbol of good luck and longevity—to express our deep gratitude for all the wonderful connections made through our crafts! 🐢

The Japan Festival in Amstelveen is one of the largest Japanese events in the Netherlands, welcoming over 10,000 visitors! Coloratura is thrilled to be joining again this year!
I will be offering two fun, hands-on workshops:

Time: 12:00 - 19:00
Location: Handelsplein, Amstelveen
※ Please note our venue has changed this year! It is the square where the restaurant "Kokusai" and the tram terminus station are located.
Participation Fee: €5 per session
Age Requirement: Suitable for adults, and children who can sit and participate independently.
☆ Every year, my workshops get fully booked very quickly. If you are interested, please come early! To welcome as many participants as possible, participation is limited to one session per person (however, if there are spaces available at the start of a session, you may join on the spot).
The festival will also feature plenty of Japanese food stalls, goods, and exciting stage performances. Bring your family and friends for a wonderful day out!
For English Speakers: This project is featured in my Instructor Certification Course. Currently, I offer the course only in Japanese. While I don’t have an English course scheduled at the moment, I am open to starting one if there is enough interest. In fact, I currently have a wonderful group of adult family members—two sisters and the elder sister's daughter—taking the course together!
On Sunday, April 5th, we’ll be hosting a one-day-only event at Osaka Ball in the Albert Cuyp Market (Please note: We are specially opening on the Takoyaki shop’s regular closing day.)
I’m excited to collaborate with Chamee, a Mizuhiki artist based in Leiden, who invited me to join this wonderful project.
■ Live Demonstration & Sales Watch the process of creating miniature Japanese food clay art and Tsumami-zaiku flowers. You can also purchase these unique handmade pieces on the spot.
■ Mini Workshop (No reservation needed – Walk-ins welcome!) Create your own piece in just 15–20 minutes! We have prepared special menus for this event :

At Coloratura, my goal is to introduce the beauty and joy of Japanese handmade crafts to more people.
In addition to workshops and sales at Japanese events and markets, I am now offering workshops and pop-up sales at Japanese shops and restaurants to make them more accessible to a wider audience.

What is Tsumami Zaiku?
🌸 Tsumami Zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft in which small square pieces of fabric are folded and pinched to create delicate flowers.
It is well known as a traditional hair ornament, but in Coloratura’s workshops we also explore ways to enjoy it as decorative art, such as framing it or using it as small accessories.
